A bientôt

As I told you my last weekend have been very busy, and today I'm sharing with you one of my other hobby...Archery =D
I have been belonging to Les Compagnons du Tir à l'Arc for 20 years now !
I 'met' my first bow during a trip to Canada and at my return began a great story =)
I love this beautiful sport even if for health reasons I had to stop 8 years ago and never came back to it. I always belonged to the life of the club as the secretary and made great friendships.

Things changed a bit in 20 years, starting by the target. It's now what we call a trispot (don't know how it is named in English...) but it's only the central zones of a usual target (points from 1 to 4 usually in the white & black rings are useless in this kind of championship)
Only the Bare Bows (without sight) can shoot on the usual target of 40cm diameter.

Maybe you have good eyes and can see the tinny X in the very inner ring used for the tie-breaking. The closer to the X is the winner =)
For this indoors , archers are at 18 meters from their target. A/B shoot first, then C/D to not have too numerous archers at the same time.
2 successions of 10 ends of 3 arrows. 2 minutes per end...the 2 successions last about 3 hours =)

This was only the qualifying round, after we had the regional championship , the duels, to determine the champion for each category. In the Junior Man Recurved Bow category , Bastien from my club ended first =D

The bows changed too !
On the first pictures you saw recurved bows, with all the accessories , we are far from the piece of wood with a cord =)
Here under Compound Bows, designed to reduce the force required to bend the string

It's difficult to take good pictures of this sport . The light is not too strong , flash is forbidden of course to not disturb the archers and we can just stay behind them =)
But I hope I gave you a good overview of my other hobby...
Next time, I promise, we will speak about stitches =D

  3. Your pictures remind me of of my father and the competitions at the army barracks when I was about 4 years old.
Too bad the cross bow isn't allowed.
Archery takes much skill and to think this is how people defended and fed themselves long ago!
    Take care :D

      gros bisous

  6. How nice that you can still be involved with the sport even if you are no longer competing, Valerie! I had no idea that there were such things as archery clubs! Nice that the young man from your club came in first!!

My eyes are so bad, I don't think I could even hit any part of the target!!

archery club, cross bow clubs...there are many different clubs except the one I would like most : cross stitch !
Maybe I can create one =D
We were very proud the regional champion was from our club. He even was France champion last year, junior but he has a great future if he continues this way =)
      have a great weekend

  7. That looks really cool, it's a shame you can't compete any more. I'm useless at it, I would probably end up hitting the ceiling lights!
I know I'm probably going to cringe at the answer, but how much would one of those compound bows cost?
    Kind regards, Brian.

    1. ready to cringe ? =)
the price of a compound bow can vary from 500€ to 1300€ (£410 to £ 1100) but some can even be more expensive...
after that you have all the accessories for the archer, the arrows....
it's almost like golf, not a very cheap sport :-/
but the bow lasts for years =)
won't you be as good enough to hit an apple on Mii's head ? =D
      have a great weekend

  8. Wow! Your pictures look great anyway, Valma, even without the flash. A shame that you had to give up the sport as it looks like a really cool sport to do. So, good that you can still be involved, though. Thank you so much for sharing.

  13. I loved doing archery when I used to do it.... But unfortunately I had to give it up as my shoulders couldn't take it anymore... Then I found out why when I was diagnosed with RA a few years later.... But even though I don't do it anymore I still love the sport! Well done you for being a part of the sport and club for so long :) Thank you for sharing the photos of the comp. Looks like everyone had a great time :)
